Nuchido, Giving Us Time

Issue 67

A team of North East biologists, tackling ageing at cellular level, is boosting its number - and its international reputation…

LIFESPAN is a term familiar to all of us – but, to Dr Nichola Conlon and her team at Dissingtonbased Nuchido Laboratories, it’s all about healthspan – staying as healthy as possible for as long as possible. She and her fellow scientists have led research into the way in which human cells alter over time and believe one particular molecule could influence the way in which people age. The molecule, NAD+, is found within every living cell of the body and it diminishes as we age, leaving us susceptible to a wide range of conditions from muscle weakness and loss of stamina to poor sleep quality. And now not only has Nuchido developed a supplement which raises NAD+ levels, by around 242 per cent, but it has successfully launched the supplement, Nuchido TIME+, with customers in more than 50 countries around the world. “Recent scientific breakthroughs now suggest that maintaining high levels of NAD+ is one of the most effective ways for us to combat aging and the physical symptoms associated with it.” said Dr Conlon. “In the US, the importance of NAD+ is fairly well understood so for our product to have attracted a solid and expanding customer base there is incredibly exciting for us. But what is really interesting is the increasing awareness of NAD+ and growth of the product in other markets including the UK.” In addition, Dr Conlon has received recognition for her achievements by being named one of IWD’s most inspirational female founders and one of UK Tech’s coolest female founders for 2021. She has also expanded her team with the appointment of Alix Mackay to the role of Chief Commercial Officer. Alix, who brings more than 20 years commercial experience within the life sciences and pharmaceutical sectors to the role, is tasked with the operational leadership of marketing and sales of Nuchido TIME+. Based in Glasgow and a board member of the Scottish Life Sciences Industry Leadership Group, Alix, is also a professional member of the Royal Society of Chemistry. She said: “It has been deeply inspiring to learn that biological ageing and the physical symptoms and chronic conditions associated with it, can be slowed or even reversed. “It is a privilege to be part of this at such an exciting time in the company’s growth.” Dr Nichola Conlon, said Alix’s experience “Will be significant as we move forward.” “Alix’s commercial expertise combined with her detailed and proven understanding of translating scientific concepts and working with leading clinicians will make her an invaluable addition to our team,” she said. “We are delighted to welcome her on board as we move to bring Nuchido TIME+ to an ever expanding market.
