A conversation with Ryan Parker, the Managing Director of Gateshead based investment management company Seven Bridges IM, is an uplifting experience.
When asked about the Coronavirus pandemic that we’ve been struggling with, his response is surprisingly upbeat.
“Yes, when the lockdown first happened in March, it wasn’t the best of times for Seven Bridges and our clients.” said Ryan. “The stock market fell dramatically and we had to take immediate action to protect the assets of our clients. To say that we were busy is an understatement. However, thanks to the actions we undertook I’m delighted to say that, in terms of financial performance, many of our clients are ahead of where they were at the end of March which, given the circumstances this year, is a great result.”
This is a hugely impressive performance by Ryan and his team at Seven Bridges IM, bearing in mind that the company hasn’t exactly been taking things easy.
They’ve recently acquired another local investment management company which, at a stroke, has added over 600 new clients to the Seven Bridges portfolio and increased the amount of assets under their control by a further £110m.
“We’d known the owner of Pension Matters for some time and, following lengthy discussions, we both agreed that the time was right for this acquisition to proceed. Pension Matters has a similar ethos to us… they’re very people focussed…and place customer care at the top of their list of priorities, as we do. They were also based on the Team Valley and actually have similar clients to those we already had on our books. As a result, we have had to find additional office space as we have taken on some of the employees and advisers who were at Pension Matters, as well as increasing the size of our own team this year. Consequently, although we’re still based in Gateshead on the Team Valley, we’ve moved into new offices with additional meeting rooms for clients and around three times the space. It also means we can comply with all of the latest Covid-19 social distancing restrictions.” Bearing in mind these aren’t exactly stable times, it’s great to hear that Ryan fully expects his projected turnover at Seven Bridges Investment Management for next year to increase to £1.8million. And if you thought that was impressive, it’s staggering to hear that over the last two months, a further 26 new clients have put their financial affairs into the hands of Ryan’s team. “We now have a really broad spread of clients…from young to old…business people and private individuals…retired couples… corporate clients…local and national. What it means is that, despite all of the problems caused by Covid-19, we are still looking to increase our workforce to provide our clients with the service of which they have become accustomed and to continue to attract additional clients. Thankfully, given the ups and downs of Covid-19, we are actually on course to have our best year since I set up the company in 2014, which I am both relieved and thankful for.” Seven Bridges IM have a team of experts who specialise in a particular field such as Retirement Planning, Tax Planning, Individual & Family Protection, Corporate Protection, Corporate Pension Planning and Succession Planning. The company also prides itself on being totally 100%, independent. Whatever advice is provided for you, it will be one-off, tailored completely to your requirements.
They don’t do ‘off-the-shelf’ advice. “Every client is different; we never do the same thing twice. It doesn’t matter whether we are dealing with a single individual or a large company, everyone always has different circumstances and risk profiles that require different advice.”
