Sunderland Tech Company Rebrands And Scales Up To Help More Businesses Solve Skills Gaps

Issue 121

Workforce intelligence company, Workprove, formerly known as Moralbox, is entering a new phase of expansion following a major rebrand, fresh investment and ambitious plans for international development.

The transition from Moralbox to Workprove marks a significant milestone for the business, with the new brand reflecting its evolution and long-term ambitions to become a global leader in workforce intelligence, helping organisations verify that their team members have the right skills at the right time.

Founded in 2013 by CEO Gordon MacPherson and chief technology officer, John Dunnill, Workprove has evolved from a small startup into an international workforce technology provider operating across five countries and four continents.

In 2025, Workprove secured £350,000 in funding led by Northstar Ventures’ Venture Sunderland Fund, alongside £150,000 from Creative UK’s North East Fund and £50,000 from angel investors Paul Dyson and Invest North East. The investment is being used to accelerate growth across product development, AI integration, sales, marketing and customer success initiatives, including the launch of a new website and brand campaign.

Workprove enables organisations to move beyond spreadsheets with a live training matrix that tracks expiring certifications and missing competencies in real time. For employers operating in highly regulated sectors such as construction, manufacturing, logistics, food production, transport and care, this provides greater visibility of workforce capability while supporting safer, more compliant workplaces.

As adoption expanded across industries and international markets, it became clear that organisations needed more than visibility of training records. They needed a connected system capable of unifying skills, training and workforce development across the entire talent ecosystem.

In response, Workprove has evolved into a workforce intelligence platform that identifies skills gaps, connects organisations with training providers, and verifies workforce capability in real time.

Through its CourseCloud marketplace, businesses can quickly source training to address skills shortages, while workers use the Workpass mobile app to instantly verify their certifications and competencies when arriving onsite.

Powered by artificial intelligence, the platform can also anticipate future skills requirements and recommend personalised learning pathways — helping organisations build safer, more capable and future-ready workforces.

John Dunnill, said: “From the outset, our focus has been on building technology that gives organisations complete confidence in the skills and compliance of their workforce. As we scale, we are continuing to enhance the technical vision behind our platform, developing a connected and scalable workforce intelligence solution that can adapt to the changing needs of global industries.”

The company has expanded from three employees to 11, with plans to reach 16 by the end of 2026, and aims to achieve £10 million in revenue within five years. It recently welcomed Steve Spark as chair, bringing extensive experience in scaling SaaS businesses and leading high-growth teams, further strengthening the leadership team as the company accelerates its international expansion.

Gordon MacPherson, co-founder and CEO, said: “This is an incredibly exciting moment for Workprove. Our rebrand reflects the evolution of our business and the ambition we have for the future. With the support of Northstar Ventures, Creative UK and our angel investors, we are able to scale our team, accelerate product innovation and expand into new sectors. Our platform helps businesses not only close skills gaps and maintain compliance but also develop their people and future-proof their workforce. I’m proud of what our team has achieved and we are just getting started on this next phase of growth.”

Locally, Workprove has secured clients such as Thompsons of Prudhoe, while nationally it works with companies including Multevo, Spartan UK, Ron Hull Demolition, UKG and other organisations operating across the construction and infrastructure sectors.
