Project Delivery Enhanced As New Appointment Made To Quantity Surveying Team

Issue 120

True North Construction has strengthened its quantity surveying capability with the appointment of Jane Robertson, further enhancing project delivery and technical client support across its growing portfolio.

As part of her role, Jane, who joins as assistant quantity surveyor, will be involved from project inception through to completion, supporting cost control reporting and proactive management of budgets and contracts. This hands-on approach ensures clients benefit from a smooth and well-managed experience throughout the entire project lifecycle.

Jane will be mentored by consultant quantity surveyor, Graham Blackie, who works closely with the business.

Keen to gain greater exposure to on-site delivery, Jane joins True North Construction from a consultancy background, where her previous role was largely office-based.

This is a time of strong growth for True North Construction. Founded in 2019, the Newcastle-based SME principal contractor, delivers high-quality construction across residential, healthcare, hospitality, childcare and commercial sectors. Turnover has increased by 60% year-on-year, with forecast growth of 60% to 70% in 2025/26 representing 225% growth over three financial years. This momentum has been driven by sector diversification, strategic investment in experienced site management and a strong focus on operational excellence.

The company’s board of directors has recently restructured to support growth, with 40% female representation, reflecting inclusive leadership and succession planning. In line with this, a refreshed brand identity positions the business to target higher value projects above £5 million across residential and commercial sectors.

Jane, said: “I wanted to be involved in the full build process from start to finish and to see projects develop on-site, not just on paper. Here, I am working closely with Graham and the directors across live projects, such as the exciting 177 High Street West, part of Sunderland’s Heritage Zone.

“True North Construction is the most relaxed, friendly, positive and ambitious place I have worked and everyone is so positive. It feels like a very exciting time to be part of the team.”

Originally graduating in Fashion Design, Jane began her career in retail management. During the Covid pandemic and inspired by discussions with her partner, who works in construction, she decided to pursue a new direction. Jane completed a two-year master’s degree in quantity surveying at Northumbria University before entering the industry.

Laura Roberts, finance director at True North Construction, said: “Expanding our quantity surveying team allows us to further enhance the level of cost certainty reporting and client support we provide across our projects. Jane brings strong academic knowledge, a fresh perspective and real enthusiasm. With Graham supporting, we are strengthening expertise within the business and supporting the next phase of our growth.”
