The finalists for the Constructing Excellence North East Awards 2026 have been announced, celebrating the very best in the region’s-built environment.
To be held at The Grand Hotel Gosforth Park on Friday 12 June, industry leaders will recognise organisations, teams and projects driving innovation, collaboration and positive change across the North East. Winners will go on to represent the region at the national finals later in the year.
Catriona Lingwood, chief executive of Constructing Excellence North East, said: “This year’s shortlist reflects the outstanding depth of talent, innovation and collaboration across the North East construction sector. The quality of entries demonstrates an industry that continues to evolve, delivering projects that are not only technically excellent but also socially valuable and environmentally responsible.
“Amongst those shortlisted are some truly inspiring examples of what can be achieved when teams work with ambition and purpose. Our flagship categories, Building Project of the Year and Infrastructure Project of the Year, showcase the very best of the region, from transformative civic and healthcare schemes to major infrastructure shaping long-term economic growth.
“We are also delighted to introduce our new Social Impact category this year, recognising organisations making a meaningful difference in communities across the North East.

The Building Project of the Year category includes transformational schemes across the region. Amongst those shortlisted are the AESC UK Gigafactory Project and Digital Life at Teesside University, alongside Pilgrim’s Quarter in Newcastle, the Bailiffgate Hotel development and Redcar Central Station. Healthcare and education schemes, including the RVI Urgent Treatment Centre, Tees Valley Community Diagnostic Centre, HICSA and the Market Pavilion also feature strongly.
The Infrastructure Project of the Year category recognises schemes critical to regional growth and connectivity. Amongst those shortlisted are the A1 Birtley to Coal House improvement scheme and the IAMP A1290 Infrastructure Project, alongside Keel Crossing in Sunderland, NEP 1 Quay in Blyth and the Newcastle International Airport Car Park Extension.
New for 2026, the Social Impact category highlights projects and initiatives delivering meaningful benefits beyond construction, recognising excellence in community engagement, skills development and social value.

The Outstanding Contribution Award will also be presented on the evening.
