Durham based WL Distillery, an independent producer of hand-crafted premium spirits, with a focus on the distillation of small batch unique gins, have unveiled their hotly anticipated festive tipple, and it’s set to be just the tonic for those frosty nights.

Embodying the key festive notes of the season, the fabulously festive pairing Christmas Citrus, with its zingy and zesty clementine notes, and Festive Flavour with its warming baked apple and cinnamon taste explosion will be available in a uniquely bottled seasonal gift pack of two 40ml bottles, priced at £12.99. With the ethos of being distinctively different, it’s anticipated that their tree and star shaped bottles will be the must have stocking fillers this season.

The gin renaissance in recent years, has seen the market explode in choice and popularity. WL Distillery is making a splash in the market with nature at the forefront of their ethos. With an explosion of flavours, their inspiration comes from their Northern roots, ensuring a fresh and classic authentic gin experience for customers.

Following the successful launch of their 1st Edition gin, the micro distillery is committed to combining their passion for gin with capturing the charm and nature of the region. Distilled in the North East, from start to finish the gin is expertly monitored and created, by hand in the distillery. From handpicked ingredients to hand labelled packaging, no two bottles are the same.

Sunderland born Founder, Scott Wilson-Laing established WL Distillery last year after sampling European and Mediterranean flavours while volunteering as an archaeologist overseas and wanting to replicate a regional taste back home.

Scott said, “In the North East, we are blessed to be surrounded by so much culture and tradition, and we infuse this into our practices as a business and as a gin distillery.

Our flavours are strongly inspired by the Great British garden. I would spend my summers in my Grandad’s garden, picking and eating fruit and basking in the sun, they are such great memories and I wanted to incorporate that nostalgia and those autumnal flavours, including blackberries, pears and apples into the gin.”

As you can imagine the ingredients take centre stage and WL Distillery take great interest in the nature and the beauty that it represents. Each bottle is infused with nature using handpicked, measured botanicals and natural mineral spring water to ensure the freshest, most authentic taste to give people a real sample of what the North East is all about.

Before the distillation begins the botanicals are added by hand to the copper still along with a mixture of grain neutral spirit and water. The botanicals are then rested in the spirit and water to allow the flavours to infuse.

Steeped in festive spirit each distinctive bottle is then filled and labelled by hand. The result, an iconic must have for any discerning gin connoisseur that’ll take pride of place on the shelf of the ever-popular home bars or an opulent drinks cabinet.

WL Distillery, who paused planned production earlier in the year and switched to the production of sanitiser for the local NHS and charitable groups, have been delighted by the response to the 1st Edition gin.

Scott added, “We were fortunate to have a successful crowdfunding campaign to initially set up the business and we’ve had great support ever since. I’m delighted to have the production line running again and feedback to the 1stEdition Gin has been excellent.

With the current trading environment, we have refocussed our strategy to solely focus on the consumer market at the moment, rather than a mix of trade and consumers. With the profile raising and importance of customers to Shop Local, it would be amazing if the region can get behind our new line.

Our loyal customers have been eagerly awaiting our seasonal offering, so I’m thrilled to bring some festive cheer with the launch of Festive Flavour and Christmas Citrus, which continues to embody our ethos – a taste of the North East.”
