Mowden Hall School was alive with energy, determination and sporting spirit as the school hosted back-to-back Cross Country events across its fantastic 50-acre grounds.
Welcoming hundreds of young runners, families, and visiting staff the events delivered fantastic competition and proved once again why this weekend is a highlight of the calendar for so many.
The action kicked off with our Pre-Prep Cross Country Competition. Pupils from Years 1, 2, and 3 took on custom courses ranging from 1.04 km to 1.30 km, navigating a mixture of terrain designed to challenge and inspire our younger runners. With cheer, enthusiasm, and plenty of determination on display, every pupil from every school gave their all from the starting line right through to the finish. The afternoon ended with a celebration of effort, as children gathered for refreshments and the presentation of medals.
On Saturday, the momentum continued with the Prep School Invitational Cross Country Competition. Mowden Hall was proud to host visiting teams from across the region, including RGS, Dame Allan’s, Barnard Castle, and Hunter Hall among others.
Runners competed across U9, U11, and U13 categories in both boys’ and girls’ races. The longer, multi-lap courses took full advantage of the Mowden landscape, testing the stamina and team spirit of every competitor. The atmosphere throughout the afternoon was electric, with spectators lining the course to cheer on every single runner.
Reflecting on the success of the weekend, the Head Phil Sturt shared his pride: “There is a unique magic to cross country at Mowden, and these two competitions showed our school off at its absolute finest.”
Congratulations to all the runners who took part and we look forward to welcoming everyone back next year!
