Young Enterprise North East Teams Up With New College Durham

Students at New College Durham who have the appetite for business success, are to take part in an employability masterclass, thanks to Young Enterprise.

Adhering to COVID risk assessments, the team at Young Enterprise will be engaging with students from travel and catering courses on 23 and 25 March, to deliver an employability masterclass with the chance to hear from local employers and employees about the skills and qualities required to be successful in the workplace.

On 24 March, hair and beauty students will have the opportunity to attend Launch Pad – a fast paced, engaging, enterprise challenge, providing an introduction to employability skills.

Formed in 1962, Young Enterprise is a national charity that works with both the business and education sectors to help young people develop key employability skills outside of the classroom which they can transfer to the workplace. Its vision is that every young person is provided with the opportunity to learn the vital new skills needed to earn and look after their money, to develop an enterprising mindset and make a positive contribution to their communities and wider society.

Carolyn Adgar, area manager for Young Enterprise in the North East, said: “This is the first time we are able to engage with students, in person, since the pandemic struck and we are eager to get back to the classroom. As we deliver the programmes, we will, at all times, adhere to strict COVID-19 safety rules.

“Launch Pad is an initiative that provides students with the knowledge to develop the practical skills needed when looking to start a business. Through a series of hands on, fun activities, students work in teams on the early stages of launching a fledgling business, balancing a budget as well as creating a brand identity and marketing strategy.

“Through the Employability Masterclass, students will learn about their personal strengths and preferences and what this means for both working in a team and for their own development as they consider a range of approaches to job hunting. Essentially, we want to equip young people and challenge them in their thinking upon entering the workplace.”
