This month a number of the region's business leaders attended a national conference that saw outstanding speakers and the bringing together 500 of some of the best business brains in the UK.
The Vistage UK Annual Conference was open to Vistage chairs, members, guest and potential members of a CEO level. Hosted by Brad Waldron and aptly named CEO Connect, the North East was represented by ten of our leaders from a range of industries including shopfitting, hygiene services, charities, shopfitting, software, digital and more.
Vistage chair for the North East and Northumberland, Andrew Marsh, accompanied some of his members to the event in Birmingham which also included an evening dinner complete with awards hosted by James Nesbitt. He said:

The conference opened with Lorraine McDonnell, entrepreneur and motivational speaker, who led the room in a manifestation meditation. Her powerful session heralded World Mental Health Day, showing how leaders under pressure can build mental resilience, optimise performance, maintain clarity, and operate at peak capacity. She left the room with the thought that “The quality of your thoughts, dictate the quality of your life.”
Next to the stage was a North East favourite Sara Davies who shared her life and career journey saying she felt that Vistage was a safe space to share and be vulnerable. She shared honest, practical advice from her career, teaching us how to lead effectively, nurture talent, diversify ourselves and our businesses, and take bold steps in our entrepreneurial journeys.
Following a networking lunch, the delegates returned to the main room to hear from Rebecca Drew, who unveiled a new Vistage member benefit called Vistage Strategy. The organisation prides itself on listening to its’ members and 90% of members had expressed that needed more support in strategic planning.
Tim Peak, British astronaut and test pilot, brought the daytime conference to a memorable end with his story telling of adventures most can only dream about. He revealed lessons from space exploration, demonstrating how exceptional leadership, teamwork, and decisive thinking under pressure translate to business success. The challenges and decision-making hints and tips were well received as Tim got a standing ovation from the room, who were moved by the images and words which he shared.
