Uts Group Reinforces Management Team With Two Key Appointments

Issue 58

Jarrow-based engineering specialist, UTS Group, has announced the appointments of Ryan Tinkler as head of site services and intervention and Norman Thompson as Group health and safety manager.

Ryan, who is responsible for directly managing the on-site aspects of projects, is making a welcome return to the company and brings with him extensive knowledge of the oil and gas industries.

Norman, who has over 35 years’ experience working with local government and global enterprises, will manage health and safety across the UTS Group, whilst driving forward new technologies, initiatives and tactics to provide the best level of care to its growing workforce.

Ryan, said: “After a few years working across the globe, it is fantastic to return to my hometown. I knew straight away that I would make contact with UTS, as it was my first choice for employment in the region.

“The team at UTS is absolutely fantastic and the pace at which everyone works is phenomenal. The skills I have developed since I was last here means that I am well positioned to handle the speed at which projects proceed and to ensure we are adaptable to sudden changes and the evolving needs of clients. I am looking forward to helping the company develop new and innovative ways to ensure our clients, and by proxy, their customers receive the highest standard of value from our state-of-the-art equipment.”

With its headquarters on Bede Industrial Estate, Jarrow, UTS Group was established in 2001 by managing director, Shaun Sadler and employs approximately 200 people.

Responding, on average, to as many as 30 serious incidents every week, the company is fully prepared to answer the demands of clients in the water industry, when there is a sudden, large scale loss of water supply.

Norman, said: “With over 35 years’ experience working in health and safety, there isn’t much I don’t know about the role. I have worked for many organisations and businesses and UTS Group is up there as one that I have been most excited to be in the employ of. The scope within my role is limitless due to the vast range of activities undertaken across the group and I am more than looking forward to driving forward new technologies, initiatives and tactics to make sure that the workforce across the entire group is looked after to the highest standard at all times and in all situations.”

UTS is a dedicated engineering company in the great Tyneside tradition. Its customers are in the utility, industrial and commercial markets, where UTS produces a vast range of couplings, flange adapters and repair clamps for customers in the UK and export markets. Its unique selling point is having the capability to provide almost any product for the piping industry, to incorporate tailor-made solutions and to fabricate its products to suit any size of diameter and oval pipes, if required.

In addition to its manufacturing capability, which includes welding, fabricating, machining, powder coating and wet spray finishing, the company guarantees a 24 hour, 365 days a year, emergency service anywhere in the UK.

Emergency jobs can be turned around within 8 to 24 hours depending on location and can be for a national emergency to something more local but always a crisis.

Shaun Sadler, managing director of UTS Group, said: “We are delighted to welcome Norman to the UTS Group and Ryan returns as a much liked and valued colleague who is known for his excellent attention to detail and quality of work.

“Both Norman and Ryan are highly skilled in their individual roles and I look forward to seeing their innovative viewpoints. I always look to bring people into the business who will challenge ‘the status quo’ in order to keep us at the top of our game so that we provide only the very best products and services for our customers.

“Throughout the current uncertainty caused by the coronavirus, UTS Group is still focused on the future. We are trailblazers for North East Engineering.”
