North Tyneside-based, Carney Consultancy, has appointed Tori Carney as administrative assistant.
This follows the recent appointments of Erin Rochford as a trainee health and safety advisor and Lucy Dean as business administrator.
Tori, follows in the footsteps of her mother, Angela Carney, managing director at Carney Consultancy, as she looks to make her mark in the construction sector.
The company is enjoying a strong 2023, with a surge in demand for fire door inspections, resulting in the launch of a new division.
Earlier in the year, having identified a gap in the market, the company provided specialist training to three of its staff in areas such as sustainability and environmental awareness and has developed a carbon calculator road map to assist clients in their ambition to achieve a net zero business by 2050.
The appointment of Tori, is in-line with Angela Carney’s commitment to develop and retain talented young people, Carney Consultancy celebrated success at the Generation for Change (G4C) Awards, held in conjunction with Constructing Excellence in the North East, winning gold in the Commitment to Employee Training and Development – SME category. The company went on to win the People Development award at the Constructing Excellence North East Awards 2023.
Tori, said: “I have grown up around Carney Consultancy. I know the team and it very much has a family feel, which appealed to me.
“Having completed my A-Levels, I wanted to pursue a career as a health and safety consultant and, fortunately, I am able to carve my career working under the guidance of Angela and customer liaison coordinator, Louise Dack, who is my line manager.
“Currently, I am learning all aspects of the business from understanding the accounts and invoicing, which is something that I particularly enjoy, through to answering customer calls and getting to grips with administrative tasks.
“In the months ahead, I want to expand my knowledge by getting out on site where, supported by our team of consultants and advisors, I will learn all aspects of health and safety on construction sites. I also want to begin to learn and provide additional support when it comes to SHEQ Management systems, SSIPS and Constructionline applications.”
Managing director, Angela Carney, said: “Tori is now a fourth-generation member of the family who has entered the trades. Dave Carney, my husband started as an engineer in construction, our son, Harry, is an apprentice electrician at T-Clarke and my dad and great uncle were chartered civil engineers. My great uncle was also a Fellow of the ICE and of the IStructE, so construction definitely is rooted in our family.
“We are also an example of how working in the trades offers longevity when it comes to career progression. You don’t have to go to university to climb the career ladder.
“Under the guidance of Louise and myself, Tori is very much settling into life at Carney Consultancy and is enjoying understanding all aspects of the business, from here we can determine where her skill sets lie as she progresses her career journey.”
