Teesside University achieved a memorable hat-trick of awards at the Constructing Excellence National Awards, scooping Building Project of the Year and two Highly Commendations.
In a successful night for the North East, a number of entries won top awards or were Highly Commended.
Held at the London Marriott Hotel, Grosvenor Square, award winners from across the UK gathered to recognise outstanding projects, organisations and individuals pushing the boundaries of excellence in the construction sector.
The awards saw an exceptional showing from North East companies, highlighting the region’s commitment to delivering high-quality projects and fostering a thriving construction ecosystem.
Teesside University was awarded the prestigious Building Project of the Year for its delivery of BIOS, a partnership with Wates Group, Summers-Inman, FaulknerBrowns Architects and SCAPE. The state-of-the-art facility showcases the potential of sustainable design and construction, setting a new standard for innovative learning environments.
BIOS received Highly Commended in the Integration & Collaborative Working category, further highlighting the project’s success in fostering strong partnerships and delivering exceptional results.
The university’s second Highly Commended accolade came in the Climate Action category for its Net Zero Industry Innovation Centre (NZIIC), a joint venture with GSS Architecture, Robertson Construction, BGP, Cundall and Summers-Inman. The project demonstrates the North East’s commitment to sustainability and its role in driving the transition to a net-zero future.

Showcasing its commitment to innovation and exceptional service delivery, the company’s dedication to delivering high-quality acoustic solutions has earned it recognition across the industry.
Client of the Year
Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust
Its collaborative approach and commitment to delivering outstanding healthcare facilities was highlighted.
Infrastructure Project of the Year
Sunderland Railway Station, a collaborative effort between BAM Construction, Network Rail, Sunderland City Council, Northern Railway, Aecom and Harry Marsh
This ambitious project transformed a vital transport hub, demonstrating the power of collaboration and innovation in delivering complex infrastructure projects.
