Putting People At The Heart Of Product Development

Issue 129

North East based MMC Research are used to asking questions, gathering insight and helping organisations make better-informed decisions.

Being invited into a project at an early stage, when ideas are still taking shape is where research can have a particularly valuable role to play, which is why they’re delighted to be working with TREAT-NMD on an innovative new product.

TREAT-NMD is a global network of experts in the neuromuscular field, bringing together patients, clinicians, researchers, industry and other stakeholders to accelerate the development of effective treatments and improve diagnosis and care for people living with neuromuscular diseases.

Based in Newcastle, the organisation has an international reach and works across the neuromuscular community to address some of the challenges involved in developing new therapies. Its work spans areas including clinical trial readiness, education, global data and collaboration between the different groups involved in research and treatment development.

For MMC Research, working alongside an organisation with such a strong focus on collaboration makes this an especially interesting project. Supporting the business as they look to understand the different perspectives surrounding its development, their work will involve speaking to people across the spectrum, including pharmaceutical organisations, key clients and patients.

When a new product or service is being developed, the variety of the research is particularly important. It can be tempting to focus on the idea itself, however, understanding whether it will ultimately deliver value means looking beyond the product and listening to the people who will develop it, deliver it, influence it and, ultimately, use it.

By bringing different voices into the conversation, research can identify what matters to each audience, highlight potential challenges and uncover opportunities that may not otherwise be obvious. It can test assumptions, provide evidence behind decision-making and help organisations move forward with greater confidence.

Natasha, Managing Director at MMC Research, said: “We’re delighted to be working with TREAT-NMD on this project. It’s a great example of where research can add real value at an early stage, helping to bring together different perspectives and make sure decisions are informed by the people who matter most.

Projects like this are particularly rewarding because we’re not simply looking at what people think about an existing product or service. We’re helping to build an understanding of what different audiences need and where the opportunities may lie as something develops. That insight can be incredibly valuable in shaping the direction of a project.”

Natasha continued, “For businesses, this is one of the key benefits of investing in research, it isn’t simply about collecting opinions or producing a report at the end of a project. Done well, research provides evidence that can help reduce uncertainty, identify opportunities and support more confident commercial decisions.

For a project operating within such a complex and specialist environment, understanding those different perspectives is particularly important.

We’re looking forward to getting stuck into the research, hearing directly from the people at the heart of the project and providing the insight TREAT-NMD needs as its new product continues to develop.

It’s still early days but that’s part of the excitement. Sometimes the most interesting research starts before all the answers and even the questions, are fully formed.”
