North Shields-based, Carney Consultancy, has seen a surge in demand for its services resulting in a number of new partnerships including its appointment as preferred health and safety consultants to Surgo Construction.
Working company wide, a Carney team led by senior health and safety consultant, Sarah James, is providing a holistic approach to ensure Surgo, and its supply chain, are fully compliant.
Martin Blight, pre-construction director at Surgo Construction, said: “Carney Consultancy has a pro-active approach when it comes to offering health and safety advice. We appointed the firm because of its experience in the construction sector.
“The team keeps abreast of changes to policies and procedures, provides up-to-date knowledge on funding opportunities and is always on hand to offer compliance guidance. As a conscientious contractor, the safety and wellbeing of our employees is our number one priority, so the added value that Carney provides is of great benefit to us.
“We are working on a range of projects across the North East as main contractor and the external support provided by Carney Consultancy adds further depth of resource working alongside our inhouse team.
“Projects include a £2.3 million contract with Dame Allan’s School, Newcastle, where a two-storey extension is being constructed and we are carrying out a significant refurbishment of the school’s sixth form centre. Further to improving student facilities, the new scheme will also include additional staff changing and showering facilities, designed to encourage sustainable travel to work.
“At St Peters Pavilion in Wallsend, we are constructing a new sports hub at St Peters Playing Field (west), including a new sports pavilion, clubhouse and a multi-use community space. Further works include new 3G artificial grass football pitch, across the 6.8-hectare site, new site fencing, car parking and other ancillary facilities. The contract value is £2.6 million and the contract with North Tyneside council is being hailed as a first-class venue for football and rugby.
“The team at Carney is also supporting us on site in Yarm, where we are currently constructing 21 five-bed executive homes on the former Tall Trees night club site in Yarm. The contract value is £9 million.”
2023 is also proving to be a busy year for Carney Consultancy, with a strong order book, the company has won regional acclaim, winning the people development award at the Constructing Excellence North East Awards and it took gold in the commitment to employee training and development category at the G4C North East & Tees Valley Awards.
