It's Time To Put Some Power Behind Your Recruitment

Issue 91

North East based Staff Power Group enjoys rapid growth.

Five years ago, Anthony Hudson David Macmillan and Sean Lavender formed StaffPower Group.

At the time, he was a one-man band…but he was someone who already had definite ideas about what a successful recruitment business would look like. He’d worked for previous recruitment firms and knew what worked and, more importantly, what didn’t.

He hasn’t looked back and the business continues to flourish with growth recorded in every one of those five years. 2023 is already shaping-up to be another successful year for StaffPower Group, which now has an established training division with a combined projected turnover of £10million. The businesses also represent several prestigious local firms in the North East.

£0 to £10million in the space of five years. Impressive.

The group is still privately owned and is now starting to spread its wings. As well as their original head office in Sunderland, StaffPower Group has recently opened an office in Newcastle and plans are already underway to find accommodation in Teesside and Leeds.

“We’re now at the point where StaffPower Group can move to the next level and expand into other regions outside Tyneside and Wearside,” says Anthony. “We have over 30+ staff and I expect that number to climb rapidly over the next few years. I’ve been really fortunate in that I’ve kept in touch with most of the people I’ve worked with previously and a decent percentage of the guys working for me now have worked with me in the past.

“However some things won’t be changing and that is continuing to concentrate on our core sectors for recruitment including manufacturing, warehouse and distribution, customer service, sales and marketing, driving, printing, financial and accounting.

“We will also continue to search for employees to fill permanent and temporary roles as well as providing training to a wide range of companies and organisations.”

The training courses are particularly interesting because they apply both to new employees as well as those who’ve been with a business for a certain period of time. The courses include government funded training which are aimed at those people who’ve been unemployed and possibly need to retrain and update their skills, or perhaps they are entering a completely different sector and, in effect, are starting from scratch.

There is also commercial training which targets specific fields, plus employed training where workers are given training which helps them enhance their skills. Management staff can be brought up to speed on health and safety issues and employees rights.

“We’re looking to form nationwide partnerships with other businesses, organisations and individuals so that we can become their recruitment and training partner of choice. It means they can continue working on their own business while we will look after training new staff or updating the skills of those who already work there.

This is a service model which can work anywhere. However, when it comes to the recruitment side of StaffPower Group, we will continue to concentrate on the North East region. The majority of the jobs we advertise are here in the North East and they are primarily aimed at people who already live in this region. We also promise that if an unemployed person attends one of our training courses, we will ensure that they get a job interview, this could be anywhere in the UK.

One advantage of being the Managing Director of your own firm is that, while leading from the front, you can devote your time to some other projects. Anthony is always looking at how StaffPower Group can help disadvantaged people in our region. The latest to receive support is a pledge of £10,000 for the Sunderland Foundation.

“As a company, we believe that we should support our own. Many people throughout the North East face challenges every day, especially those with a disability. Due to these significant barriers and reasons close to our hearts, the Group support a number of charities, Community Interest Companies and other local groups. one of which is the Foundation of Light.

The Foundation of Light does great work with its participants, offering various programmes to ensure young people can fulfil their full potential. Our donation will further support the Foundation to extend its disability provision, and we’re incredibly excited to see the Sensory Space make a difference to thousands of lives.”

So, would you like a company that does things the right way to look after your recruitment and training?
