David Pritchard, supply chain team leader at Elanders UK
Can you tell us about your role at Elanders UK?
I am supply chain team leader, employed by Elanders UK but work within our sister company Bergen Logistics at its new North Tyneside headquarters.
In January, Elanders launched the Bergen Logistics brand in the UK with a 48,000 sq ft facility in North Tyneside.
A specialist fashion and lifestyle fulfilment brand, Bergen Logistics occupies a £4.6 million unit on Tyne Tunnel Trading Estate, facilitated by UK Land Estates.
What is your role?
As supply chain team leader, I am responsible for providing direction, motivation and support to the supply chain team. I also help to improve the overall supply chain performance and look for any possible innovations to help enhance processes. I also work to develop new and existing relationships with suppliers.
How has your career progressed at the company?
I have been with Elanders UK for 20 years. It was supposed to be a stop gap after leaving school but I really enjoyed the family feel and working environment. Prior to becoming supply chain team leader I was factory shift manager at Elanders North Tyneside HQ.
Tell us about your team and the areas you operate in?
I work predominantly between the customer service and warehouse teams. I liaise with the customer services team to adhere to client requirements and fulfil their service level agreements.
What is your proudest business achievement?
Definitely being part of the team who helped to launch the Bergen Logistics brand in the UK. This was a big acquisition to be involved in.
How has the industry changed since you began your career?
The print industry has changed dramatically. This has been influenced by the digital era, sustainability and changes in customer behaviours. Many customers want to be able to place an order and be able to collect it the next day.
What do you think are the opportunities going forward?
Moving forward, the opportunities are massive for Bergen Logistics. We have value added services which appeal to our customers including our integrated offering of pick/pack and e-fulfilment. We also offer storage and a full returns management solution.
The Bergen Logistics brand will expand its presence across the UK, EU and USA, providing fulfilment services to the fashion and lifestyle sectors, to include clothing, footwear, handbags, accessories and cosmetics, home goods, medical devices and supplements.
