Louise Dack, office manager at Carney Consultancy

Can you tell us about Carney Consultancy and your role?

We provide health & safety consultancy and training to the construction industry. We have almost 200 retained customers, where we are their health & safety team. We also deliver construction related training courses and are a CITB approved training organisation.

In my role as office manager, I oversee the day-to-day running of the office, acting as a conduit between the company directors and administration team. I have a huge focus on quality performance and delivery. It is one of our core values and I want to ensure that everything we do is of the highest standard. I’m also keen to keep improving our processes and procedures and to introduce new systems across the business to ensure we work efficiently and smartly. Having worked very closely with IT teams in previous roles, I am always looking at how we can improve our systems.

What do you enjoy most about being office manager?

Working with my team every day, they are fab! The business is currently going through a period of growth and to be part of that, looking at processes and the skills of the people in the team to see where we can improve is really fulfilling.

How many people do you manage within your team?

I currently manage five people in the team, who all carry out very different roles within the business. We are also actively recruiting for a document controller so I will soon have a team of six.

Which areas of the UK does Carney Consultancy operate within?

We have a client base within the North East, North West and Yorkshire and we travel across the UK to support our customers.

What’s your proudest business achievement?

Most recently it must be our move to our new premises, we left one building one day and the next we were up and running in our new office, lots of planning was involved but it definitely paid off! We are located in a lovely spot, The Barracks Building, North Shields. Aside from that, with a background in training and development I am always happy to see people who I have trained or mentored progressing in their careers, whether that is in my current team or in a previous role where I was involved in the North East Solicitor Apprenticeship scheme.

Is there a mantra you always aspire to do business by?

My Dad always said, treat people how you wish to be treated, and I have always tried to stick to that.
