Newcastle-based, True North Construction has raised £3,500 for cancer charity, Maggie’s Newcastle, following a charity golf day held at Arcot Hall Golf Club.
The event brought together 72 industry professionals for a day of sport and fundraising.
Maggie’s, Newcastle, provides free emotional, practical and social support to people living with cancer, as well as their families and friends. With centres across the UK and a growing online presence, the charity offers expert advice, counselling, group sessions and a welcoming space for people to access help when they need it most. Maggie’s relies entirely on charitable donations and receives no government funding.
Established in 2019, True North Construction specialises in delivering both contemporary and modern high-end extensions, refurbishments and bespoke new builds across Northumberland, Tyne & Wear and County Durham. The company is also one of the few regional and award-winning specialists in the construction of certified Passivhaus homes.
The event was made possible thanks to support from headline sponsor J. Renton Groundworks and competition sponsors Lannon Scaffolding and Bespoke Electrical.
A broad cross-section of the regional construction and design community including representatives from Carney Consultancy, Lloyd North Tyneside, Bespoke Electrical, Northern Counties Builders Federation, Room by Julia, Anthony Fulthorpe, Darren Tyler, James Burrells Builders Merchants, Morrells Wood Finishes, Jewson Hexham, JAR Roofing, Narro Associates, Emily Scullion Architects, The UnBuilt Visulation Ltd, RBT Underfloor Heating, St James’ Place Newcastle, MawsonKerr Architecture, JC Consulting, Boels, Lovells, Labourn Construction and MGL Group took part in the day.
After a competitive day on the course, Carney Consultancy took first place, with True North Construction’s site team finishing second and the A. Fulthorpe Painting and Decorating Team placing third. A special highlight came from Owen Cairns of Narro Associates Engineering, who hit a rare hole-in-one.
David Roberts, director of True North Construction, said: “It was a brilliant day with a great atmosphere and a real sense of purpose behind it. Maggie’s does incredibly important work and we’re pleased the money raised will help people in the region access the support they need. One of the great things about the construction industry is that businesses and individuals are always willing to come together to support a charity or initiative like this. We’re really grateful to everyone who got involved and we look forward to continuing our support for Maggie’s in the future.”
Karen Verrill, Centre Head at Maggie’s Newcastle said: “Cancer affects so many people across our region, support from businesses like True North Construction is vital to the work we do here at Maggie’s Newcastle. We couldn’t provide the emotional, practical, and psychological support to people living with cancer and their friends and families without the generosity of individuals and businesses. The funds raised at this event will make a real difference and it’s encouraging to see the construction industry come together for such a meaningful cause.”
