As a proud ally of Newcastle Pride 2026, Eldon Square has announced a vibrant programme of free, family-friendly creative workshops taking place at the centre this summer, in partnership with Curious Arts.
Happening on selected weekends across June and July, Eldon Square is inviting its community of customers to come together in celebration of self-expression, inclusivity, and pride through a fantastic series of creative activities and workshops.
Running from 11-4pm each day at Eldon Square’s Community Quarter, the free workshops will include everything from rainbow headdress making to zine creating, with each activity inspired by LGBTQIA+ artists and activists.
Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th June – Rainbow Headdresses and Paper Wig Making
The first weekend invites visitors to get creative with colourful Pride inspired crafts. On Saturday, visitors can make vibrant rainbow floral headpieces inspired by LGBTQ+ activist Marsha P. Johnson. Then, on Sunday from 11-4pm, guests can get crafty by making their own bold paper wigs, celebrating creativity and self-expression.
Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th June – Rainbow Headdresses and Banner Making
These celebrations continue with another chance to create rainbow headdresses on Saturday 27th June, alongside the opportunity to make personalised banners sharing messages of love, and inclusivity, to celebrate Newcastle Pride on Sunday 28th June.
Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th July – Proud People and Zine Making
The final weekend of Eldon Square’s pride-filled activity will celebrate individuality and storytelling, with visitors invited to design colourful paper characters from 11-4pm on the Saturday, and create mini zines inspired by identity and creativity on the Sunday.
What’s more, visitors are then encouraged to continue the celebrations on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th July, as Newcastle Pride takes place with a huge celebration across the city, bringing the local community together for a weekend of celebration, performances, activism and inclusivity.
As a supporter of Newcastle Pride, Eldon Square joins a vibrant coalition of local enterprises who make it possible for Curious Arts to deliver a safe, inclusive, and community-focused Pride celebration for Newcastle and everyone who visits over Pride weekend.
Helen Cowie, Centre Director at Eldon Square, commented: “Eldon Square is delighted to share that it is a proud ally of Newcastle Pride 2026. We look forward to celebrating Pride alongside our visitors, brand partners and the wider Newcastle community, while creating a welcoming space for people to come together, get creative and show their support.”
Phil Douglas, CEO of local charity and Newcastle Pride organisers Curious Arts, said: “It is great to have the support of Eldon Square for Newcastle Pride. The fun, free high-quality activities for families is just one example of the warm and inclusive welcome that everyone experiences when visiting Eldon Square all year round.”
