From a small, two-person office to a team of 11 working across England and Scotland, specialist recruitment firm Adkins & Cheurfi has spent the past decade building a business founded on industry expertise, relationships and a clear ambition to grow.
Founded in 2016 by Dean Adkins and Melika Cheurfi, the company is celebrating ten years in business with plans to strengthen its position in the legal and commercial recruitment markets while expanding its reach across the North West, Yorkshire and Scotland.
Initially focused on hospitality recruitment, Adkins & Cheurfi has gradually broadened its offering as the business has grown and new expertise has joined the team. Today, it works across hospitality, legal and commercial sectors, helping employers attract and secure talent in increasingly competitive markets.
For Melika, the company’s tenth anniversary is an opportunity to reflect on how far it has come, as well as look ahead to the next stage of its development.
“It’s amazing to look back over the last ten years and reflect on how much the company has grown. What started out as just Dean and I working out of a tiny, two-person office is now a team of 11 working with clients across England and Scotland.
“Initially, our focus was solely on hospitality, but as the team has grown and we’ve brought in additional expertise, we’ve gone on to establish ourselves in the legal and commercial sectors too, which has really opened up doors for the business.”
The founders’ ambitions now centre on building further momentum in these markets and developing relationships with clients in areas where the company has already made progress.
A constant throughout that journey has been the North East BIC, where Adkins & Cheurfi has been based since its launch. The business began in a small incubator office and has since relocated to larger premises five times as its team and operations have expanded.
Dean believes the flexibility to increase workspace as needed has played an important role in allowing the company to grow without the disruption often associated with moving premises.
“The BIC has been fantastic to us ever since we set up the business. Whenever we’ve needed to grow and bring in more staff, we’ve been able to almost immediately move into a larger space without the upheaval that comes with moving premises.
“We’ve also been fortunate to tap into numerous support programmes and government grants to help with everything from building our website to implementing new systems and processes. It has been a fantastic home for the business.”
The support reflects the wider role business accommodation can play in helping growing companies navigate the practical challenges of expansion, from finding suitable space to accessing advice and development opportunities.
Doreen Howard, Centre Manager at the North East BIC, said: “It’s fantastic to see Adkins & Cheurfi continue to go from strength to strength ten years after arriving at the BIC. The company has helped thousands of people secure employment over the past decade, and I’m looking forward to seeing how it continues to develop over the next ten years.”
With an established team, a broader sector offering and plans to expand into new markets, Adkins & Cheurfi enters its second decade focused on building on the foundations it has created since 2016.
