With a stage and screen career spanning six decades, Cher is one of the worlds most enduring performers and her remarkable story was vividly brought to life during a captivating two hours at the Sunderland Empire.

The Cher Show arrived with an impressive pedigree, with Direction from Arlene Phillips and Choreography from Strictly veteran Oti Mabuse, and certainly didnt disappoint.

Every aspect of the icon’s life is covered from her humble shy beginnings to her early work with Phil Spector and The Ronettes and the Righteous Brothers. The action then moves seamlessly through her tempestuous volatile marriage to Sonny Bono, which resulted in 40 million record sales and the seminal hit “I Got You Babe,” divorce and bankruptcy ,before significant redemption in the form of an acclaimed acting career which peaked with a career Best Actress Oscar for Moonstruck in 1988.

Hit after hit underscores this epic story and Cher is brought to life by amazing performances from Debbie Kurup,Danielle Steers and Millie O’Connell who cleverly share the lead role. Heading a wonderful support cast is Lucas Rush who brings Sonny Bono to life in a performance of great skill and technique.

The audience were brought to their feet during an epic finale and received a well deserved standing ovation.
