Angela Carrington - Managing Director, The Bigger Picture

Who is your favourite author and why? I don’t have a favourite author. Currently on my bedside table is The Art of Happiness by HH Dalai Lama, Letters of Note compiled by Shaun Usher and Cocaine Nights by JG Ballard. What would be your three Desert Island Discs? Safe from Harm by Massive Attack (I adore any trip hop/breakbeat and even have lyrics from this one inked on my body!), Your Love by The Prodigy (one of the lesser known of their tracks with THE best house piano solo ever) and Hotel California by The Eagles (over six minutes of sheer guitar perfection). Who is your favourite film star and why? I think that River Phoenix had a talent that was never fully realised due to his untimely death. What are your top three films? Gus Van Sant’s ‘My Own Private Idaho’ closely followed by ‘Apocalypse Now’ by Francis Ford Coppola and then probably Stanley Kubrick’s ‘The Shining’. Which poem left a lasting impression on you? Stanton Drew by UA Fanthorpe. What box sets have you enjoyed? I got into Power during the first lockdown and it provided the perfect escapism – a world so far removed from my own. Who is your favourite artist or performer? Impossible to say – I’m an enormous gig and festival goer and I have too many epic experiences to list. What is your favourite venue? A field with a massive sound system! Which musical instrument do you particularly enjoy? I’ve played the guitar for over 30 years so I’d have to say that. I also tinker on the drums/ bongos/cajon and have a full DJ setup in my attic conversion so it could just as easily be my turntables. From the world of Arts and Culture who would be your ideal dinner party guests? Jim Morrison, David Hockney and Nan Goldin.
