Can You Feel The Empire Tonight?

Issue 88

It was fantastic to return to the Sunderland Empire to see the internationally acclaimed production of Disney’s The Lion King.

Featuring Sir Elton John and Sir Tim Rice’s classic score, with hits such as ‘Hakuna Matata’, ‘Circle of Life’ and ‘Can You Feel The Love Tonight?’, the Lion King recounts the iconic story of young lion Simba, as he battles with family, loss and the responsibilities of adulthood in his journey to becoming king.

Amongst a tremendous ensemble cast, there were stand-out performances from Richard Hurst in the villainous role of Scar and Kyle Richardson, whose vocals stole the show in the role of Simba. The production was also brought to life by renowned Creative Director, Julie Taymor, whose stunning costume and set design showcased the rich colours, animals and wildlife of the African savanna.

Lucky for us, the show is set to stay for seven whole weeks in Sunderland until Saturday 6th May, so grab your tickets now for The Lion King. It is not to be missed.
