It was delightful to return to the Sunderland Empire to see the UK tour of the international smash-hit musical Chicago.
Featuring its iconic choreography and seductive score, with hits including Razzle Dazzle, Cell Block Tango and All That Jazz, Chicago is the longest running American musical within Broadway and West End history. Against the decadent backdrop of the 1920s, Chicago tells the story of Roxie Hart, who, after murdering her lover, hires smooth criminal lawyer Billy Flynn to help her fool the law, public and media out of her conviction. Accompanied by rival cellmate Velma Kelly, the pair go on to make showbiz history.
Amidst a talented all-star cast was star of stage and screen Lee Mead as Billy Flynn. Another stand-out performance was Djalenga Scott in the role of Velma Kelly, whose husky vocals and flawless choreography really stole the show.
