G4c Tees Valley Appoints Joe Montey As New Co-chair

Issue 127

G4C Tees Valley has appointed Joe Montey as its new co-chair, bringing his extensive project management experience and commitment to supporting emerging talent across construction and the wider built environment sector to the role.

Joe, senior project manager at K2 Construction Management, replaces Ellie Fraser-Mitchell of MGL Group, who previously held the position.

G4C – Generation for Change – provides a platform for young professionals working across the construction and built environment sectors, helping foster their development and giving them a voice within the industry.

As part of G4C’s wider national network, G4C Tees Valley and G4C North East represent the organisation across the region, with Joe joining Alex Philpott of AtkinsRéalis as co-chair of the Tees Valley group.

G4C North East is co-chaired by Matt Beattie of BAM Construction and Jess Morgan of Bowmer + Kirkland.

As co-chair of G4C Tees Valley, Joe will focus on developing a programme of networking, skills development and CPD, while strengthening the influential role it already plays across the region, helping ensure Teesside remains an attractive place for people to live, work and build their careers.

Joe, said: “Taking on the role of co-chair of G4C Tees Valley is a great opportunity to build on the work already being done across the region, including the contribution Ellie has made during her time as co-chair. I’ve always believed that our industry is at its best when people are willing to share their knowledge, open doors for others and create opportunities for the next generation.

“Having been involved with G4C for a number of years, I’ve seen at first-hand the difference it can make to people at an early stage in their careers. I’m looking forward to bringing my own experience to the role, working alongside Alex and the wider G4C team and helping to make sure the organisation continues to reflect what young professionals across Tees Valley want and need from it.”

Joe began his career as a submariner in the Royal Navy before moving into private-sector project management. Since then, he has worked across a wide range of projects throughout the North East and Yorkshire, supporting clients and project teams to deliver complex construction and development programmes.

He has mentored students and young professionals, supported engagement with colleges and schools and been involved in initiatives aimed at improving access to careers within the industry.

Joe also brings a strong commitment to his local community. He has volunteered as a listener with Teesside Samaritans for more than five years and, since the start of 2026, has served as deputy director, leading outreach work to raise awareness of mental health and support services across Teesside.

Catriona Lingwood, chief executive of Constructing Excellence North East, of which G4C North East and Tees Valley are part, said: “We thank Ellie for the contribution she has made as co-chair of G4C Tees Valley and for the time and energy she has given to supporting young professionals across the region.

“Joe brings a wealth of experience and a genuine commitment to supporting emerging talent. He has already made a valuable contribution to G4C Tees Valley and will be a real asset as the organisation continues its work across the region.”
