Castle Peak Group - ensuring your company is ready to succeed.
And so we come to the end of a series of articles about Castle Peak Group… the executive search consultancy which aims to ensure that boards of directors and senior players within companies, reflect their workforce, customers and community.
Their research has shown that diversity in terms of ability, race, neurodiversity, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and beyond, makes companies and organisations strong and primed for business success.
In other words, when it comes to filling a senior vacancy, doing the right thing and ensuring that the appointment make the company diverse and inclusive, it makes business sense.
“If there’s one thing that makes any company or organisation sit up and take notice, it’s to be told that if they make the right choice when it comes to appointing someone into a senior position, it will help them succeed,” said Castle Peak Group founder and CEO, James Carss. “The world is full of doubters…which is why we undertook extensive research to prove that diversity within the workplace isn’t just lip service to keep the box tickers happy.
“I’ve been fortunate to have travelled to many countries and seen how executive appointments, done in the right way, really do make businesses and organisations more successful and therefore more profitable. When I was approached to return to the North East, I began working within Executive Search and, I must confess, I was surprised and disappointed to see that many businesses took diversity and inclusion very lightly.
“Consequently, when I formed Castle Peak Group two years ago, I made it my number one aim to transform diversity in leadership. Businesses and organisations love facts and figures, so I decided to undertake extensive research which would allow me to prove that having diversity within the leadership group is not only the right thing to do, but that it also made sound business sense. The research, ‘Progress Under Pressure,’ did just that and, I’m delighted to say, that it’s worked.”
James will be the first person to admit that all is not rosy when it comes to executive appointments and that there are a lot of sceptics who remain to be convinced that diversity and inclusivity is the way forward.
His answer to those sceptics would be to advise them to go and speak to some of the firms he’s dealt with.
“A lot of firms don’t know where to start when it comes to ensuring their leadership team reflects society…reflects their customer base…and reflects their workforce. Here at Castle Peak Group, we fully understand that. It’s why we always visit any company or organisation we work with, to investigate their ethos, discover more information about their background, study their workforce and their target audience. Once we have all of the fact, we can then begin our search for a new director, non-exec or senior leader.”
James speaks with a quiet authority. He knows what it’s like to be a director, nonexecutive director and senior manager because he’s been all of those. He knows what it’s like to have a hidden disability and be part of a mixed-race family…and he therefore knows the importance of values to ensure that we all strive to be inclusive and diverse in our own personal outlook as well as in business.
As his ‘Progress Under Pressure’ research shows, doing the right thing will be beneficial to your business or organisation. That’s why Castle Peak Group works with the NHS, Age UK, Livin, Keelman Homes, Gentoo, YMCA, Bernicia, Bellway, Sunderland City Council etc.
