Saltburn Food Festival back to being permanent fixture on summer calendar
Foodies and those who enjoy the odd tipple are being encouraged to save the date of Sunday 28 July, as the popular Saltburn Food Festival returns to the seaside town.
About 120 stallholders will be taking their delicious artisan produce to sell at the free event, which is open from 10am to 6pm, celebrating world food and drink in a stunning seaside location.
Chefs from top hotels and restaurants across the North East will also be on hand to deliver live cooking demonstrations, creating aromas that are sure to tantalise the tastebuds.
And whether you prefer a sweet treat, like luxury doughnuts and cheesecakes, savoury snacks like cheese and chutney, Indian or Caribbean delights, you’re bound to find something to whet your appetite.
Lorna Jackson, founder of the festival who also owns Real Meals café and licensed delicatessen in the town, said: “The event returned for the first time since 2019 last year after covid and we didn’t know how it was going to work – but we can confidently say it’s back on the annual summer calendar for good now.
“We are really pleased the event is returning in 2024, after having record numbers trading and attending last year.
“We have spaces for more traders to come on board, as we look forward to showcasing the best food and drink the North East has to offer. We really like a mix of larger and smaller producers and new and seasoned traders that make the festival so special.”
Stalls range from £190 to £480, based on how big the plot is and what you are selling, so there is truly something for every different type of trader.
“We are expecting to have a footfall of up to 20,000 people, so your products and business will certainly get noticed!” Lorna said.
Lorna is particularly looking forward to supporting producers to enable them to trade at one of the region’s busiest food festivals and to the atmosphere created by the live cooking demonstrations at the event.
“Watching professional chefs cooking brings real excitement,” she says.
“For people who enjoy watching cookery shows on the television, this is a fantastic opportunity to see something live, with the addition of the smells and being able to taste the food you have watched being cooked.
“You can see what’s happening, watch the live step by step process and imagine recreating the same meal in your own kitchen.”
Traders who have already confirmed their places at the popular event include the Clucking Pig, Sawley Kitchen, Safari Shack, Gleadow’s Fish, Really Indian, Lacey’s Cheese and Sugarlove Doughnuts – to name just a few!
Lorna is encouraging visitors the event to take advantage of public transport, including the bus, train and park and ride options organised especially for the day around Redcar and Cleveland.
She is also on the lookout for sponsors for the event, who can choose to have a physical presence, an online presence on the website, their banners put up somewhere prominent at the event or a combination. Potential sponsors can email Lorna at lorna@foodfirstsaltburn.co.uk, while traders can book to take part at https://eventowl.co.uk/saltburn-food-festival-2
