In Conversation With Jorel Bautista, Director At Samuel Knight Tech

Issue 82

What services does Samuel Knight Tech provide?

We provide talent and project solutions for technology companies. We mainly operate in the US and European markets.

Can you tell us a little bit about your role?

I am the business director of Samuel Knight Tech which provides technology recruitment on a global scale. My focus is mainly on building the business from the ground up as we have only just launched! I am doing this by hiring the right people and forming a strategy for not only Samuel Knight Tech, but for our clients and candidates and then executing it. It’s a lot harder than it sounds.

What are your career ambitions?

My career ambition is to build a successful business that can sustain itself. I’ve always said that I want to work as much as possible while I’m young so that when I get the business to a strong position I can step back slightly because I’d like to start my own family at some point. Work would be the last thing on my mind when that time comes. Family first.

What’s your proudest business achievement?

In recruitment, everyone will tell you that you’ll never forget your first deal. Up until joining Samuel Knight Tech, I must say that was my proudest achievement. You really can’t beat the moment where everyone is cheering for you while you board your deal to your favourite song. Unforgettable!

How has the industry changed?

Post-covid up until now, the market has become extremely aggressive in hiring. Everyone and everywhere is hiring. This is also reflected in salary expectations which have gone through the roof and rightfully so! The inflation rate has also skyrocketed too. If you are still at the same salary as you were a year ago then I would advise you to ask for a pay rise or move elsewhere.

The other trend that I see is that employers are more open to remote/hybrid workers. They’ve really come to understand that people have other commitments apart from work and working remotely can take some of that external pressure off. The big plus for this is that the productivity levels are probably the same if not higher than previous trends.

Who are your heroes in and out of work?

My hero at work I must say is Steve Rawlingson, the founder and CEO of Samuel Knight International, because he wants the best for everyone and is extremely passionate about the industry. Outside of work my heroes are, Ben Francis and Kobe Bryant. Ben Francis because his self-improvement and self-awareness are second to none. Kobe Bryant because his work ethic, dedication and resilience are unmatched.

How do you like to unwind?

I don’t really unwind at all to be honest. I like being switched on all the time because I find it hard to get back into that loop when I do unwind. I just make sure that I look after myself by eating healthy and going to the gym in the morning, as well as making time for catch up with friends! The only time I tend to unwind fully is when I have holidays booked!
