Building The Future

Issue 125

Investing in the next generation of Construction Professionals.

The construction industry has always been built on skills, knowledge, and experience passed down from one generation to the next. At MES Construction, we recognise that the future of our industry depends on developing talented individuals who are willing to learn, grow, and build successful careers within the sector.

As a family-owned construction, civil engineering, and property development contractor operating across the North East, we are proud to play an active role in supporting apprenticeships and creating opportunities for local people.

Today, MES Construction employs six apprentices across a range of disciplines, including three apprentice bricklayers, two apprentice groundworkers, and one apprentice joiner. These individuals are gaining valuable hands-on experience while working alongside experienced tradespeople on live projects throughout the region.

For us, apprenticeships are about much more than filling vacancies. They are an investment in the future of our business, our industry, and our local communities. By providing practical training, mentorship, and real-world experience, we help apprentices develop the skills, confidence, and knowledge required to become highly skilled tradespeople.

We have already seen the benefits of this commitment firsthand. One of our recent apprentices has successfully completed their training and progressed into a fully qualified role within the company. Their journey demonstrates the opportunities available to those willing to work hard, learn from experienced professionals, and build a career in construction.

The construction industry continues to face a significant skills shortage across many trades. As demand for housing, infrastructure, commercial developments, and civil engineering projects continues to increase, the need for skilled workers has never been greater. Apprenticeships provide a vital pathway into the industry while helping businesses develop a workforce equipped to meet future challenges.

At MES Construction, apprentices are given the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects, gaining experience across residential, commercial, industrial, and civil engineering sectors. This exposure enables them to develop a broad skillset while understanding the high standards of workmanship, safety, and professionalism that our clients expect.

We believe in creating careers, not simply jobs. Many of today’s industry leaders began their journey as apprentices, and we are proud to play a role in helping the next generation achieve their potential. By investing in people, we are strengthening our business and helping to secure the future of the construction industry throughout the North East.

As our business continues to grow, we are always interested in hearing from talented and motivated individuals looking to start or further their careers within the sector. We are particularly keen to hear from aspiring joiners, bricklayers, and groundworkers who are eager to learn, develop their skills, and become part of a professional and supportive team.

By supporting apprenticeships today, we are helping to build the skilled workforce that will deliver the projects of tomorrow.
