200-client Milestone On Horizon As Carney Consultancy Becomes A Dominant Force In The Construction Sector

Issue 108

Following a year of increased growth and a strong forward order book, Carney Consultancy is closing in on a 200-client milestone.

In the last two years, the company, led by managing director, Angela Carney and directors, Martin Crammond and David Wadds, has seen turnover surge by 64% following a 22% increase in retained clients.

Growth is the result of new services and an expansion of the company’s geographic footprint outside of the North East. It is working with clients across the UK such as Cubby Construction and Wannop Developments in the North West, Gilcon Concrete Products in Northern Ireland and Your Property Services and business management consultancy, GenNorth, in Yorkshire.

To assist further growth, the company, which has its headquarters in North Shields, will focus heavily on recruiting those in the armed forces about to move back to civilian life. A group of mature people it regards as having positive mindsets and are highly focussed on developing new careers.

The company identified a gap in the market to provide specialist training to three of its staff in areas such as sustainability and environmental awareness and has aided in completing carbon footprint reports for companies planning for the future. It has also seen a big rise in demand for fire door inspections, resulting in the launch of a new division.

It has welcomed a raft of new clients including John N Dunn Group, H. Malone & Sons Ltd, NEG Architectural Systems, Maine Engineering Ltd, Northern Gas and Power Ltd (NGP) and Gemini Ltd.

Established in 2002, Carney Consultancy specialises in construction and engineering, providing health and safety consultancy and training. Team members come from a main contracting and subcontracting background and have worked, as consultants, with some of the North East’s main companies. The firm works on an on-going basis with a variety of small to medium sized builders, specialist sub-contractors and management companies.

Managing director, Angela Carney, said: “It is wonderful to look back over the last 20 plus years and reflect on all the clients we have represented. It will be fantastic to reach the 200-client milestone. Like all businesses, we have had to be resilient at times but it is thanks to colleagues, old and new, that we continue to expand and build on our service offering.

“It is well known that I am passionate about building the careers of people entering our industry and when we employ people, we lay out a clear training programme spanning a two-to-five-year period, with milestones and rewards for each step reached. So, employees have goals and routes to achieve them. We’ve invested in all our consultants and that has, ultimately, led to an enhanced service offering for our clients as well as organic growth across the business.

“I am very grateful that we get to work with a vast range of clients who are benefitting from our services. I would like to specifically mention InterCeil, based in Blyth, my first ever customer 23 years ago and are still with us, today.

“We are fortunate to work for numerous long-standing clients from all areas of the North East and who remain on our journey, including AS Crocker, James Paul Services, DPC Screeding, Kenmor Ceilings & Partitions, Renwick Flooring, and Rowan Specialist Interiors and Simon West (Interiors).”
