Alan Poskitt, a seasoned advertising copywriter who lives in Matfen, Northumberland, has been inspired by the 'what3words' geolocation app to write his first book.
Alan, who has worked on many wellknown brands, including Quorn Foods Ltd, NewcastleGateshead Initiative and Canadian petroleum business, Teekay Oil and Gas, is a director of the Ouseburn-based Kite Communications.
Parables of the App, which is a quirky collection of short stories, relates to ten tales of obsession, comedy, tragedy, disaster and the supernatural across a time span from modern day Australia to Tudor England. The tales are described by one reviewer as “Ray Bradbury’s The Illustrated Man meets James Joyce’s The Dubliners”.
Briefly giving a synopsis of the book, Alan says, ‘The storyline centres on a delivery driver who challenges a hitchhiker to turn each of his ten what3words delivery locations into a story in return for a lift to his final drop off point.
“Each one of the parables is inspired by actual what3word geolocations in England. The app drills down to precise three metre square locations anywhere on the planeta truly genius geolocation device for anyone and in my case, has proved to be a fantastic source of inspiration for some great short stories. In fact, I have already started “Parables of the App Volume II”.
“I decided to publish the book on Amazon as a paperback or eBook and it only went live a couple of weeks ago but is doing really well. I am delighted.”
Alan Poskitt has worked in advertising and marketing since 1988, most recently on the marketing and website of the new Southfields residential development by Buchanan Estates in Acklington as well as Sunderland’s Barnes Infant Academy school website.
Alan is passionate about cats, dogs, wildlife and the English countryside, especially beautiful Northumberland. He recently appeared with his rescue Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Rosie on “The Dog Rescuers” on My5.
