Stress & Resilience For High-performing Teams

Issue 118

Avoiding burnout before Christmas

As the year draws to a close, workloads rise, deadlines loom, and energy often dips. For many teams, November becomes the perfect storm, long hours, festive pressures, and the mental fatigue that comes from pushing hard all year.

But high performance doesn’t have to mean high stress. In fact, the most successful teams are those who know when to pause, reset, and recharge. Building resilience isn’t about working harder, it’s about working smarter and recovering better.

I’m Cheryl, a menopause wellness and workplace strength coach. Through my work with organisations like the NHS and NatWest, I’ve seen how simple mindset shifts and movement-based strategies can completely transform energy, focus, and morale, especially in the run-up to Christmas.

3 simple ways to boost resilience at work:

Move often: Just 5-10 minutes of movement can reduce stress hormones and improve focus. Encourage stretch breaks or walking meetings.

Check in, don’t check out: Regular, honest team conversations about workload help prevent silent burnout.

Recover with intention: Quality rest, hydration, and boundaries are not luxuries, they’re performance tools.

As we head into one of the busiest times of the year, take a moment to invest in your team’s wellbeing. A small step now can prevent burnout and boost productivity when it matters most.
