As part of its 20th anniversary, a team of 10 from North-Tyneside based Carney Consultancy, has raised £3,830 for a charity dedicated to improving the well-being of construction workers.
Having initially planned to raise £3,000 for the North East branch of the Lighthouse Club Construction Industry Charity, staff took part in this year’s Great North Run and surpassed their fundraising target.
Striding out on the day the Carney team consisted of colleagues, family and clients including, Angela Carney, managing director at Carney Consultancy and director at Carney CDM; her partner, Dave Carney; Caroline Morton, director at Carney CDM; Martin Crammond, director at Carney Consultancy and Carney CDM; his partner, Rebecca White; Hafsa Ghaffar and Ethan Armstrong, business administrator apprentices; Kerry Benson, health and safety assistant and Jamie Clark, health and safety advisor at Carney Consultancy and Carl Gilbert, STP Construction.
Established in 2002 Carney Consultancy is a specialist health, safety, environmental and quality consultancy and training provider for the construction and engineering sectors. Meanwhile, Carney CDM was launched in 2022, and provides services in line with the CDM Regulations 2015.
Operating nationally, the first branch of the Lighthouse Club Construction Industry Charity was established in 1976 in the North East. It delivers charitable support to the construction sector across the UK and is the only charity that provides emotional, physical and financial wellbeing support to construction workers and their families. It receives no public funding and relies on the generosity of those within the industry to help it continue its vital work
Angela Carney, managing director at Carney Consultancy and Carney CDM, said: “We had a team of 10 take part in the run including some of our partners and clients. This is the 20th anniversary of Carney Consultancy and, like many businesses, we have overcome many hurdles.
“At a time when we face an energy crisis and the cost of living is spiralling, charities really feel the strain. Giving back is something that is part of our culture at Carney Consultancy and Carney CDM, it isn’t just a gesture for our 20th year, it will continue long into the future.
“The Lighthouse Club Construction Industry Charity is hugely important in promoting the trades and putting the spotlight onto a sector that often gets overlooked. That is why it is so important. Providing emotional, physical and financial wellbeing support to construction workers and their families, is something everyone in the sector should get behind and we must continue to work collectively to remove the stigma, so people can talk about their feelings in a safe and supportive environment.”
Sarah Sidey, chair of the Lighthouse Club Construction Industry Charity in the North East, said: “It is great to see organisations such as Carney Consultancy supporting the Lighthouse Club Construction Industry Charity. We rely on charitable donations and events such as the GNR to raise much needed funds and to spread the word! The charity’s vision for 2022 was to double the numbers of supporters and double the number they support, Carney Consultancy is a key driving force in our region to raise awareness and help break the stigma around mental health, I am a firm believer that if we all work together change will happen!”
