Mia Ojomo, Marketing Apprentice At Elanders Uk

Issue 88

Tell us about your current role.

I am part of the marketing team at Elanders UK. I’m currently a marketing apprentice and gaining training from Baltic Apprenticeships as well as technical experience in the workplace. I am mostly responsible for the social content that is posted on the Elanders UK social media platforms. I also produce blog posts and take care of some of the maintenance of our website.

What were your career ambitions growing up?

Growing up, I always wanted to be in a role that gave me the freedom to be creative. I’m very artistic and constantly thinking of new ideas to create and show people, so, being in the position I’m in currently, matches something I want to pursue a career in.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

I would say the most rewarding part of my job would be watching the growth of the company over the last few months. I joined in October 2022, at a very exciting time for Elanders. Most recently, the UK team at Elanders launched fashion and lifestyle fulfilment brand, Bergen Logistics into the UK. This saw the opening of a 48,000sq ft facility in North Tyneside to which Bergen Logistics occupies a £4.6 million industrial unit on Tyne Tunnel Trading Estate.

Being able to produce content and gaining a lot of attention from it, has really helped with my development and future ambitions in my role.

Tell us about your team.

Being new to the role of marketing, the team at Elanders are all very welcoming. It is also my first time working in a full-time role. The team were all understanding and helped me with anything I was unsure about. My manager, Ryan Blakemore, is very supportive of my learning and development in digital marketing and is always there to offer me guidance and advice.

What is the best piece of business advice you have been given?

“Don’t sit down and wait for the opportunities to come. Get up and make them.”

Who are your business heroes?

I would say one of my business heroes would be Rihanna and the multi-million-pound business she has built with Fenty Beauty. Her business consists of showcasing diversity and inclusion and it’s inspiring to see the community she has built and the growth she has made as a businesswoman over the last 5 years.

Outside of business, I would have to say my hero is probably my mum for all the hard work and dedication she puts into her job and looking after me and my sisters.

How do you like to unwind outside of work?

My downtime mainly consists of spending time with friends and family, going to the gym or out for food and binge-watching tv shows.
