Lauren Joins Growing Team

Issue 93

North-Tyneside based, Carney Consultancy, has announced the appointment of trainee fire risk assessor, Lauren Clark.

Her arrival follows that of trainee health and safety advisor, Erin Rochdale and business administrator, Lucy Dean.

Lauren, who previously worked as a chartered building surveyor, will report to health and safety consultant and lead fire risk assessor, Steve Harkness and director, David Wadds.

In June 2023, the company became BAFE fire safety accredited resulting in qualified team members Steve and David implementing robust, in-house, fire risk assessor training.

As a result, all fire risk assessments, performed under the BAFE scheme, are checked and signed off by a designated validator within the organisation.

Lauren, said: “Having worked as a building surveyor for five years I wanted a role more specific to one area. I undertook a fire risk assessment course with my previous company and really enjoyed it.

“Having known Carney Consultancy and its managing director, Angela Carney, for a number of years through the regional branch of the National Association of Women in Construction I was thrilled when an opportunity arose to join the team.

“I was aware the company was developing its fire safety and compliance team, so I have joined at a great time.

“As part of my role, I am shadowing Steve to undertake on-site fire risk assessments and I am currently studying for my UK Fire Door Training certificate, whilst benefitting from the robust inhouse training the company provides.”

Angela Carney, managing director at Carney Consultancy, said: “Having known Lauren for a number of years, when the opportunity became available, I knew she would fit our culture very well. Coupled with her expertise in building surveying and the fact that she is a member of the Chartered Institute of Building (MCIOB), we expect her to advance to a fully-fledged fire risk assessor very quickly.

“A quality fire risk assessment is a vital obligation in fire safety legislation for all non-domestic/commercial buildings nationwide.

“We invest heavily in our team and the fact we are BAFE accredited will ensure that Lauren is getting high quality training which in turn will benefit clients.

“Fire safety and compliance and, in particular, fire door inspections is becoming a crucial service for our customers and in the coming months we will make an exciting announcement regarding this area of the business.”
