Karpet Mills - When It Comes To Carpets, They've Got You Covered

Issue 119

They've been on a carpet-ride for approaching 150 years.

Karpet Mills is the region’s leading provider of carpets and flooring…and they’ve been leading from the front since 1878. Whether you’re looking to carpet a small bedroom carpet, some luxury LVT for your kitchen or to replace the floors of an entire office block, Karpet Mills have got you covered

They’ve clearly mastered what they do – last year marked the most successful in the company’s history, and they’re aiming even higher as they move into 2026.

“We’re a family business which is now into its sixth generation, and every generation has moved the business forward, which is precisely what I’m doing,” said Karpet Mills Director, Joel Dickinson. “We’ve never stood still and always strive to continue evolving. We’re really good at staying relevant, combining attention to detail and traditional customer service with new ways of retailing and stocking the latest product choices.

“We’ve had a very strong year so far, which gives us confidence to invest further and build on a successful 2024. Since the start of the year, we’ve undertaken significant refurbishments at four of our showrooms and have seen an immediate improvement in trade. Even with challenges in the wider economy, we’ve invested from a position of strength to stay ahead of the curve.”

One of their latest developments has been to refurbish their Designer Flooring facility at the company’s flagship showroom in Kingston Park. It’s a seriously premium offering and gives customers the chance to fully explore their options from the largest selection of top flooring brands in the North East including well known brands such as Amtico, Ted Todd, Crucial Trading and Hugh MacKay. The showroom also includes state of the art room visualisation software that allows you to see exactly how certain flooring types and styles would look in your own home.

“By expanding how we sell flooring and boosting our partnership with world leading LVT flooring brands like Amtico, it means customers can select from a huge range of options, to suit all budgets and tastes. It broadens our appeal. We’ve also made strategic changes to our marketing. For example, if you travel through Newcastle Airport you can’t fail to see our branding everywhere. This is thanks to us signing a three-year deal with the airport to help us promote both our Karpet Mills and Designer Flooring brands.

“All of this is the perfect example of how we’ve evolved across the six generations, taking measured steps to steadily take the company forward in a deliberate, focussed way. We don’t see our investment in the business as a cost…it’s a sign of commitment to our customers and to the future. Our refurbishments across every showroom have improved the viewing and buying experience. Our relationship with top-end firms like Amtico gives customers a greater choice. That’s also why we have ensured every area of the North East has Amtico display stands, not only in our in our flagship branch in Kingston Park, but also in Hexham, Benton, and Hetton le Hole.”

Another development has been the launch of premium engineered, hardwood flooring offering from the UKs leading luxury wooden floor specialist, Ted Todd. Engineered floors are made from layered sections of solid wood and are extremely versatile and durable and offered in a variety of styles, including straight plank, chevron and herringbone.

Due to customer demand, Karpet Mills have also created a bespoke stair runner display, showcasing the wide variety of unique options available. It allows for different binding and taping borders on a wide variety of carpet styles. If you call into their Kingston Park showroom (and shortly in their Hexham outlet too) you’ll be able to see full displays.

“Business is strong…our showrooms look better than ever…and we’re on track for another record-breaking year,” adds Joel. “Every showroom has incredibly experienced staff who can take you through all of your flooring requirements, including our bespoke service.”

In other words, whatever your carpet and flooring requirement, Karpet Mills have got you covered.
