Employers Set To Sign Up Next Generation Of Talent Following Collaboration With Hartlepool College

Issue 91

In a show of strength, some of the most influential companies in the North East construction sector supported an event organised by Northern Counties Builders Federation (NCBF) in collaboration with Hartlepool College, showcasing the talents of young trades people about to enter the workplace.

It is the first of a number of events with a range of colleges across the region, as the NCBF mounts an ambitious and sustained campaign to highlight the next generation of talent.

The event drew in a mix of national and regional companies including Kier Group, Hodgson Sayers, Applebridge Family, Geoffrey Robinson, Classic Masonry, Persimmon Homes, Ega Energy, Sheraton Design & Build Ltd plus Hartlepool Borough Council.

Break-out tours enabled employers to meet with students who have undertaken courses in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, joinery, bricklaying, construction technical and professional.

The NCBF is a long-established trade association bringing together construction companies and contractors operating in the North East of England. As a membership organisation, it is proactive in raising the profile of its members, supporting training and apprenticeships and helping to future-proof the region’s construction sector.

Tony Kay, president, NCBF, said: “We were very pleased with the event at Hartlepool College, which attracted not just organisations based in Teesside but from across the North East.

“We wanted to highlight talented young trades people and the event has done just that. Employers had the chance to chat to the students and see examples of their work. As a result, we are confident that some will find employment.

“We were very impressed by the calibre of the students and the commitment of employers, who came with the clear desire to place students into the workforce.”

John Cartwright, head, school of construction and built environment, Hartlepool College, said: “A huge thank you to the NCBF for partnering with us in what was a very successful day.

“We received glowing feedback from employers and we are actively following up with organisations who are able to offer employment to our young trades people.

“As an education provider, we want to help shape the future leaders of North East construction and by working with the wider business community we can achieve that.”
