A renowned boutique law firm has expanded beyond its native North East for the first time with the opening of new offices in Cumbria.
Founded in 2005, McDaniels Law is led by Niall Head-Rapson and helps a wide range of businesses in the identification, protection, exploitation and commercialisation of intellectual property. The firm is nationally renowned, having worked on several high-profile cases, and acts for businesses worldwide, counting various household names as clients, particularly in the furniture and homewares sectors. Following the recent return to the firm of Managing Associate Solicitor, Adam Turley, McDaniels Law has continued its growth aspirations by opening offices at Warwick Mill Business Centre in Carlisle. Adam will take the lead on building a strong North West presence, the first step of which has been the opening of the Carlisle office. The decision to expand into Cumbria was an easy one given the exciting businesses working in the county’s hospitality, manufacturing and engineering sectors. Commenting on the move, Niall said: “We are a successful business with a profile in the North East for nearly 20 years, and the largest specialist intellectual property team in the region. When Adam came on board with his knowledge of the vibrancy of the Cumbrian economy it was an absolute no-brainer to bring our expertise to the market. With North West businesses producing so many exciting products and brands there is a real need in the region for specialist intellectual property advice, including advice on patents, which we can now provide without having to travel outside of the region.” Adam added: “I am passionate about Cumbrian businesses helping each other. By providing intellectual property services in the region, we can offer higher levels of service at a more reasonable cost helping the local economy to grow.” The expansion follows a rebrand and the launch of a new website. In addition, the firm has joined Transmit Start-up’s online Marketplace as a ‘tried and tested’ company. The firm has also worked closely with Newcastle University’s School of Law to establish The McDaniels Law Scholarship supporting law students each academic year who have demonstrated a commitment to an extracurricular activity such as sport, music, art etc. As well as providing funding towards the costs of these activities, the Scholarship also includes a period of work experience at the firm. The firm’s continued high service standards have been reflected in their recent industry directory accolades. Legal 500 2021 has again ranked the ‘focused litigation team delivering a quality service’ as being Top Tier for Intellectual Property in the North East. Described in Chambers and Partners 2021 as ‘organised and client-focused’, McDaniels Law is the only firm ranked in Band 1 in the North East for Intellectual Property, with Niall ‘one of the most authoritative trade m
