Board members of the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA North East) and its Foundations Group, raised over £1,500 for Heel and Toe Children’s Charity by taking part in the ‘Total Warrior’ challenge.
A 14-strong team overcame 25 extreme obstacles to raise funds for the charity.
The team comprised of Stuart Miller, secretary director; Dan Hutton, chair; Mark Atkinson and Kevin Fenley, board members; members of the Foundations Group, including co-chair, Matthew Tetley, Lewis Hughes, Olivia Bell, Aaron Drummond, David Dunbar, Harry Moffatt, Adam Tattersall, Megan Lambert, Matthew Jameson and Louis Laird.
Heel & Toe Children’s Charity is North East-based and supports children with physical disabilities and complex needs. It is currently urging companies and individuals to donate to its Hydrotherapy Pool Capital Appeal.
The charity needs to raise £60,000 in 2025 to secure the future of the pool, based in Perkinsville, County Durham. It has recently been forced to make staff redundancies to try and recover costs. This has had a detrimental effect, leading to children being placed on waiting lists for therapy.
Stuart Miller, secretary director at CECA, said: “We are a long-term supporter of Heel and Toe Children’s Charity and the thrill-seekers amongst us jumped at the chance to help raise money to secure the future of the hydrotherapy pool.
“We participated in the 12k events course which consisted of running in between 25 obstacles which were not for the faint hearted – The ‘Human BBQ, ‘Peaks of Pain’ and ‘The Shocker’ saw us knee deep in mud, plunged into ice cold water and attempting to avoid electrical shocks, all of which we successfully overcame.
“We have raised over £1,500 so far and it was a real team effort. We all supported each other during the day. Some of the obstacles were truly intimidating and we needed to dig deep to get through it all in one piece.”
Natalie Duncan Fundraising manager at The Heel and Toe Children’s Charity, said: “Seeing the incredible team conquer the 25 obstacles at Total Warrior was truly inspiring. Their determination and resilience perfectly mirrored the spirit of the children we support. Every muddy step and every challenge overcome, raised vital funds, enabling us to continue providing essential therapies and support for children with physical disabilities and complex needs. We are immensely proud of them and incredibly grateful for their dedication.”
