Charity Golf Day Raises Over £7,000 For Construction Workers’ Wellbeing

Issue 128

The Lighthouse Charity’s North East region has raised an impressive £7,027 through a charity golf day held at Ramside Hall Golf Club, Durham.

The event united construction companies from across the region to support the Lighthouse Charity, which provides 24/7 holistic support to the UK and Ireland construction community on all aspects of emotional, physical and financial wellbeing.

Now in its 12th year, the North East charity golf day saw 22 teams compete on the championship Prince Bishops Course. The tournament provided an excellent opportunity for Tier 1 contractors, regional contractors and suppliers to connect and support a shared cause.

The top three teams were Tyne Tees Crushing & Screening Ltd, Northern Counties Safety Group Ltd with Esh-Stantec scooping first place. Their involvement, along with all the companies represented, highlights the growing commitment of the construction sector to support workforce wellbeing.

The golf day is a sell-out every year, with several companies having supported it since the inaugural event in 2014.

The Lighthouse Charity, currently in its 70th year, provides a free and confidential 24/7 helpline and 1:1 online chat service delivering support on a huge variety of wellbeing issues and these services are complemented by their free self-support app.

Founded in 1956, the Lighthouse Charity remains deeply connected to its North East roots. Its name and logo pay tribute to St Mary’s Lighthouse in Tyneside, a symbol of hope and guidance that reflects the charity’s mission: ensuring no construction worker or their family faces crisis alone.

The golf day was organised by the charity’s North East committee, led by chair Sarah Sidey, with key support on the day from Angela Carney, managing director of Carney Consultancy, Nick Redpath, operations director at Northern Counties Safety Group, Debbie Flynn, health and safety awareness officer at Health and Safety Executive, and Rachel Howey, senior consultant at Daniel Owen.

Sarah Sidey, said:

“Following our 70th anniversary celebrations, the construction sector in the North East continues to support this vital charity. Every pound raised goes back into the construction industry to provide much needed physical, emotional or financial support to our workforces.

“We will be back at Ramside Hall Hotel, Golf & Spa on Friday 1 October next year, for what has become a key calendar highlight within our sector.”
