Ncbf And Its Members Celebrate Charity’s 70th Birthday

Issue 128

Several Northern Counties Builders Federation (NCBF) members came out in force to support the Lighthouse Charity and its 70th anniversary celebratory dinner.

Founded in 1956 in Whitley Bay, the charity, provides 24/7 holistic support to the UK and Ireland construction community on all aspects of emotional, physical and financial wellbeing.

Companies from across the North East construction sector, celebrated the milestone at the Hilton Newcastle Tyne Bridge.

The event raised just over £13,800 with an anonymous donor offered to match what was raised on the evening. In total the dinner raised a whopping £27,670

The night included speeches from Sarah Sidey, the charity’s regional chair and its CEO, Sarah Bolton and guests were kept entertained by compere, Steve Walls and a live band.

As well as fundraising events, The Lighthouse Charity delivers talks and initiatives that champion wellbeing and mental health awareness within the North East construction industry. These include on-site sessions and roadshows designed to make support services highly visible and easily accessible to workers. Through its Company Supporter Scheme, businesses can also access free training to help safeguard and support their workforce.

NCBF members who attended included Carney Consultancy, a sponsor of the event, Compass Developments, John N Dunn Group, Hodgson Sayers, RE:GEN Group and the NCBF who took two tables which included its members -Vest Construction, Able Construction and Classic Masonry.

Both the NCBF and Lighthouse Charity have strong synergies as they operate across the construction sector and president of the NCBF, Angela Carney, also sits on the North East committee of the charity.

NCBF is a long-established membership association bringing together construction companies and contractors operating across the North East of England.

Angela Carney, said: “The NCBF has been a long-term supporter of the charity, and many member companies are very active within it.

“The night was a chance to celebrate the construction sector and all that it does in collectively supporting such a valued charity.”

Sarah Sidey, chair of the Lighthouse Charity in the North East, said: “It was fantastic to see so many NCBF members and construction professionals come together to celebrate the Charity’s 70th birthday.

“It is vital that we continue to prioritise wellbeing, lead with empathy and create an environment where people feel safe to talk and seek support when they need it. The funds raised on the night will help ensure construction workers and their families can access the emotional, physical and financial support they need, reminding them that they never have to face life’s challenges alone.

“Every raffle ticket purchased, auction bid placed and donation made will contribute directly to supporting people across our industry. The generosity shown was truly inspiring and will make a genuine difference to lives throughout the construction community.”
