Richard Reed Solicitors has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting families across Sunderland by donating to and volunteering with local charity Love Amelia as part of its annual Back to School project.
Members of the Richard Reed team recently took part in a volunteering day supporting Love Amelia’s School Bags project, helping to prepare essential school supplies for children ahead of the new academic year.
This year, Love Amelia is distributing 2,000 school bags to children across Sunderland, with 1,750 bags being provided through the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme and a further 250 going to Gentoo tenants.
The Back to School project has been developed to address an unmet community need for essential school supplies and to ensure children are equipped and ready to begin the new academic year.
Alongside providing practical support, the initiative aims to reduce some of the emotional pressures children and their families may experience around returning to school. By ensuring pupils have access to the equipment they need, Love Amelia helps to ease financial pressures on families, reduce the stigma associated with hardship and give children greater confidence as they enter the classroom.
For Richard Reed Solicitors, supporting the campaign reflects the firm’s longstanding commitment to the communities it serves.
Sarah Reid, Managing Director at Richard Reed Solicitors, said: “As a Sunderland-based firm, supporting our local community is incredibly important to us. We work with individuals and families from across the area every day, so we understand that financial pressures can affect families in many different ways.
“Something as simple as having the right school bag and equipment can make a significant difference to how a child feels when they walk through the school gates at the start of a new term. Every child deserves to feel prepared, included and excited about their education, regardless of their family’s circumstances.
“That is why we strongly believe in supporting Love Amelia’s Back to School campaign. As well as making a donation, it was fantastic for members of our team to give their time and get directly involved in preparing the school bags. Seeing the work that goes into the project and knowing the difference those bags will make to children across Sunderland made the volunteering day especially rewarding for the team.”
Feedback received from families following the 2025 campaign demonstrates the impact the initiative can have. One parent said: “My child was so excited to receive their school bag. It made a big difference.”
Another described how the support meant that “school felt far less stressful”, while one family said the project had helped their child feel confident about returning to school while relieving significant pressure at home.
Richard Reed Solicitors believes businesses have an important role to play in strengthening the communities in which they operate. The firm’s support for Love Amelia combines financial assistance with hands-on volunteering, enabling employees to contribute directly to an initiative making a tangible difference to local families.
The Back to School campaign forms part of Love Amelia’s wider work supporting babies, children and families experiencing poverty and hardship across Sunderland and the surrounding area.
Through its donation and team volunteering day, Richard Reed Solicitors is proud to play a part in helping 2,000 local children begin the new school year feeling equipped, supported and ready to learn.
