A Double Win For Durham - Radisson Blu Shortlisted For Necc Community Award As General Manager Named Citizen Of The Year

Issue 123

Radisson Blu Hotel Durham is celebrating a landmark year of community impact following a double accolade that secures its position as more than just a hotel, but a vital heartbeat of the city.

The hotel has officially been shortlisted for the prestigious North East Chamber of Commerce Community Business of the Year Award. This recognition coincides with a major individual milestone for its leadership, as General Manager Stuart Lloyd has been crowned Durham’s Citizen of the Year, following a vote of all councillors at Durham’s Parish council meeting.

For years, the Radisson Blu Durham has operated with an energy that reaches far beyond the lobby. Under Lloyd’s guidance for the past 7 years, the hotel has become woven into the local economy and social fabric of the city. From the thrill of professional sports to the quiet dignity of end-of-life care, the hotel’s has a steady presence in many unexpected places.

The hotel’s community portfolio includes:

· Strategic Partnerships: Proud supporters of Durham Women’s Football Club and long-standing partners of St Cuthbert’s Hospice.

· City Events: A longstanding supporter of the world-renowned Lumiere light festival and a lead sponsor of the Durham City Run, which famously begins right outside the hotel’s front doors.

· Business Leadership: Active membership in the Durham Business Group and Durham’s very own BID helping to shape the economic future of the region.

The NECC shortlisting recognises the hotel’s role as an ‘active member’ rather than just a ‘hub,’ acknowledging its consistent effort to pour resources and time back into the County.

“The Radisson Blu is part of the fabric of Durham, and we take that responsibility seriously,” says Stuart Lloyd, General Manager. “Being shortlisted by the NECC is a testament to our entire team’s dedication to this city. On a personal level, to be named Citizen of the Year is an incredible honour. Durham is a unique, vibrant community and I am proud to play a part in its story.”

As the hotel prepares for the NECC Awards ceremony, the double accolade highlights a successful year of hospitality with a conscience, proving that business success and community spirit go hand-in-hand.
