Have you considered learning to play golf, but, for one reason or another, haven't taken that first step? Thankfully we have the answer to your hesitancy
Northumberland Golf Club in High Gosforth Park has launched its annual ‘Get into Golf ‘ Academy aimed at beginners. The initiative offers a welcoming introduction to the sport, encouraging anyone curious about golf to visit the club and give it a try.
For the price of just £60 you’ll be able to enjoy six introductory coaching sessions. You’ll be guided by one of the club’s experienced PGA Professionals who will take you through the fundamentals of the game, including what equipment you need, basic set-up, and how to get the ball away. There’ll be a friendly atmosphere and after every session you can make use of the clubhouse and enjoy a social drink. It’s a great opportunity to make a whole new group of friends.
If you’re concerned about the initial expense of buying golf clubs, don’t worry, all equipment will be provided by the club.
If you have previously taken some initial golf lessons, but need more to progress with your game, you will also be very welcome as there will be an “improvers” Get into Golf group.
“Our Get into Golf campaign is designed to make golf more accessible to beginners and encourage new players to take up the sport,” said Northumberland Golf Club Membership Director, Gail Peters. “Through these six competitively priced coaching sessions, a welcoming club environment, and the chance to enjoy a rewarding and healthy sport, we want to remove common barriers that can discourage people from trying golf for the first time.”
The initial lessons have been scheduled to accommodate a range of lifestyles. Weekend sessions will be held every Sunday between 17th May and 21st June and will take place late morning. If you prefer midweek, sessions will take place every Wednesday evening between 13th May and 17th June.
“A typical session will involve a small group of beginners on the driving range. Once they’ve started to grasp what golf is all about, further group lessons will give them the opportunity to use some of Northumberland Golf Club’s other facilities like our chipping area, putting green and the four full size holes which are ideal for a beginner’s first foray onto a golf course” adds Gail. “For most learners it’s a case of practice and building confidence. The emphasis is on enjoyment, learning and social interaction, creating an inclusive environment for adults of all ages and abilities.”
