In the light of the Grenfell Tower disaster, Carney Consultancy, a leading Quality, Safety, Health and Environmental (QSHE) specialist, has further invested in training, as colleagues undertake a Level 4 Diploma in Fire Risk Assessment.
To meet growing customer demand, Steve Harkness, senior health and safety consultant and lead fire risk assessor, Leanne Nairn, senior health and safety consultant and fire risk assessor and Stuart Dobson, associate, have all successfully completed their training.
Carney Consultancy conducts fire risk assessments for property management agents and commercial clients who are in control of the communal areas of apartment blocks. The team also complete external health and safety reports for leasehold properties and has certified British Approval for Fire Equipment (BAFE) for conducting Fire Risk Assessments by the independent registration body for third-party certificated fire safety organisations across the UK.
In preparation for the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022, which came into force on January 2023, Carney Consultancy took proactive steps to ensure readiness for the changes implementing the majority of the Grenfell Tower Inquiry recommendations, with regards to formal competency requirements for Fire Risk Assessors.
The growing demand for fire risk assessments and fire door inspections saw the company launch a new division in 2024.
Angela Carney, managing director, Carney Consultancy, said:
“The Level 4 qualification will ensure Leanne, Steve and Stuart gain a recognised qualification demonstrating their competence in carrying out detailed fire risk assessments, particularly for more complex or high-rise buildings, due to height, complexity, and increased risk factors, such as potential issues with cladding, internal travel distances, single stairways, and complicated exit arrangements.
