Shipping companies from around the world will be descending on South Shields for the oldest nautical school in the world’s education and careers day on Saturday 26 April at South Shields Marine School. The multi million pound training facility attracts students from the UK and internationally.

Principal Simon Ashton, who trained at the marine school himself, returned after a successful career at sea. Simon Ashton said: “Anyone considering a maritime career or simply curious about life at sea, will have a unique opportunity to explore different roles at sea, meet leading shipping industry professionals, talk to highly experienced lecturers,have a go on the bridge and navigation simulators and gain valuable insights into the maritime world.”

With current cadets on hand to offer their advice and support and information on student Halls of Residence, the ships careers day will be attended by Carnival UK, Royal Fleet Auxiliary, Pritchard Gordon Tankers, Anglo Eastern, Just Be Maritime, Anglo Eastern, Stream Marine Careers, Stena Line, Clyde Marine Training, Ship Safe Training Group (SSTG) and more. South Shields Marine School would like to encourage anyone currently at school, school leavers and anyone who would like to work at sea to attend.

The multi-million pound bridge and ships simulators will also be included in the tour, giving a real time experience of working at sea, as well as advice on all careers at sea.

Awarded the Queens Anniversary Prize and founded in 1861,the marine school has also announced above national average results.
