Carney Salutes Skill-set Of Armed Forces Personnel As James Joins The Team

Issue 106

North Tyneside-based, Carney Consultancy, has appointed former soldier, James Pearson, 32, as a health and safety assistant.

His arrival is in-line with the company’s commitment to develop and retain employees who had previously worked in the armed forces.

Carney Consultancy is focusing heavily on those who are about to move back into civilian life, a group it regards as having positive mindsets and are keen to develop a new career.

Originally from Crystal Palace, James moved to the North East in 2017 and was in the army for seven years in the infantry and as a petroleum operator.

James, said: “I really enjoyed my time in the military. I was based at Catterick but being in the army often meant long stints away from home. I love the North East and this is where I want to settle.

“I wanted a role that offered structure, strong progression routes and where I could be a team player and the opportunity at Carney Consultancy was perfect. I work closely with our office manager, Louise Dack and accounts manager, Julie Turner.

“The role is very varied and I am already participating and learning all about SHEQ management systems, SSIPS, Constructionline applications, health and safety training and fire door inspections.

“It is very positive to see a company actively look to recruit ex-armed forces and I am looking forward to supporting new colleagues who join the company from a similar background.”

Angela Carney, managing director at Carney Consultancy, said: “James is an example of why we are tapping into the skill-set and helping to guide ex-military personnel into job roles at our company. He has a strong work ethic, bringing the values and ethics taught from his military training to the commercial workplace.

“It is a well-known fact that we face a shortage of people actively looking to enter the construction sector and ex-military candidates are often recognised for their wide skill-set.

“As we turn our attention towards 2025, we will be recruiting further ex-military personnel who we have found have a breadth of aptitude, skills and training which are transferable and adding real value to our business.”
