I Dreamed A Dream At The Sunderland Empire!

Issue 85

It was wonderful to return to the Sunderland Empire to see Cameron Mackintosh’s UK tour of the record-breaking show Les Misérables.

Set against the turbulent backdrop of the French Revolution, Les Misérables brings the words of Victor Hugo to the stage in this all-singing, musical sensation. The production follows the life of Jean Valjean, who, after serving nineteen years in prison for stealing a loaf of bread, breaks his parole and embarks on a journey of love, redemption, freedom and justice. Featuring a classic score with songs such as ‘I Dreamed a Dream’, ‘Bring Him Home’ and ‘Do You Hear the People Sing?’, this tear-jerking spectacular enthralled the audience for an impressive three hours and brought them to a well-deserved standing ovation.

Amidst a talented ensemble cast was Will Barratt as Valjean, whose incredible vocals and heart-wrenching performance really stole the show. Other stand-out performances included Nic Greenshields as Inspector Javert, and Ian Hughes and Helen Walsh as the iconic masters of the house.

Les Misérables is a must-see for all theatre-goers. Grab your tickets now to be captivated by this musical phenomenon.
