Engineering Success

Issue 63

Investment in an experienced team of directors is a driver behind the expansion and growth of North East civil and structural engineers RWO.

RWO provides a range of highly professional and responsive residential, commercial, industrial and leisure construction engineering services and consultancy support, delivering quality and unparalleled expertise in the process to customers who include leading housebuilders (Barratt Homes and Taylor Wimpey) and construction and infrastructure sector leaders such as Caddick Group, Metnor and Vistry.

Under the guidance of managing director and founder Ross Oakley, the firm has continued to invest strongly in the very best senior industry talent, building a capable and skilled leadership team at its offices in Newcastle and Leeds to support planned strategic growth and an expanding national footprint. This is focused around a team of five company directors, who can bring more than 100 years’ of combined experience, expertise and management in civil and structural engineering work to bear.

In Newcastle, Reese Kesson has joined Ross, providing significant experience in managing investment projects such as Trinity Square in Gateshead, along with various retail and residential schemes, as the new head of structures. He works alongside Alex Erskine, the director of civils, whose own experience and expertise in technical compliance for designs and pushing forward with workflows across the business, continues to keep RWO ahead of the curve.

The calibre and quality of the RWO management team is reflected further in the directors who lead the firm’s Yorkshire operation, based in Leeds. There, Andrew Fairburn, who has been involved in civil engineering for more than two decades, working on the some of the biggest investment projects the region has seen, leads the team, supported by Jamie Corbett, the newly appointed director of structures. Jamie, a strong advocate of design and modelling technology to give RWO an acute edge and with 20 years of expertise, further boosts the leadership team with his project management track record, which includes responsibility for multi-million pound infrastructure schemes and construction projects for Vantec Europe and Amazon among others.

The new directors echo the investments RWO is making in its team’s quality and skills as well as frontline operations, and reinforces the highly capable, comprehensive engineering talent and expertise that can be brought to bear in support of clients. It also demonstrates astuteness in being able to go above and beyond expectations to deliver success and deliver projects on time and within budget. Ross and his fellow directors continue to oversee an expanding national footprint for RWO as it sees involvement in an expanding and diverse range of prestigious projects.

This can be seen in the skilled expertise provided around the design and construction of one of the largest automotive logistics centres in the UK. Work by the directors has been instrumental in bringing forward a new solution that will ensure the site is developed as cost effectively as possible.

Elsewhere, the directors are bringing their technical expertise and engineering services to support the delivery of a new community leisure centre and swimming pool in East Anglia, a multi-millionpound industrial development in Yorkshire and a new data centre on the outskirts of London. They also continue to oversee other diverse projects, which include structural engineering services around the rollout of the UK’s next generation of mobile phone technology.

Access to highly skilled, experienced and quality engineering leadership is and will continue to be paramount for the building and construction sector, says Ross.

“It’s a challenging time for everyone, but investment now in a high calibre, experienced and quality senior management team supports growth and ambition, ensuring that we will be well placed to provide top-class skills and expertise to new and current clients for years to come.”
